Note- Place your cursor over the reference to see the passage. Christ's virgin birth predicted:: Isaiah 7:14; Mt 1:18–25; Luke 1:26–38 (cf. Isa 9:6) Note Carefully, In Matt. 1:23 / Isaiah 7:14 - the behold, a "virgin" shall conceive, and yet in the Hebrew we reads, "a young woman" shall conceive. When one first glances at Matthew 1:23 it appears Matthew was quoting the Septuagint (LXX - Greek Old Testament). However, that is not for certain. One thing, you is plural in the LXX and it is not in the Matthew passage. I agree regarding the translation of Almah (Hebrew) as Parthenos, in that it picks up on an important aspect of the meaning of Almah that is often overlooked. Almah says "young woman." The point and force of that word, however, is "young woman JUST NOW arriving at the point where childbearing is possible." Prepubescent, but on the cusp, the verg, of being able to conceive. Still, it requires a miracle for such a "young woman" to conceive. The Hebrew implication of that is "virgin." Produced by the Spirit: Luke 1:35 Affirmation: Mt 1:16; Ga 4:4 (cf. Mk 1:1, 11); John 1:14 Location: Mi 5:2; Mt 2:1, 4–6; Luke 2:4–7, 11; John 7:42 Announcement: Luke 2:8–14 Response to: Mt 2:1–12; Luke 2:15–20
